Lakeside Fueling Is LIVE – Sign up to get your gas DELIVERED

Now we can play on the lake without hauling Gas!WP_20150626_001  Lakeside fueling will begin deliveries next week.  To receive gas you need to click the link in the message from Dustin below to do the full sign-up below (have your boat registration number and credit card not just the Beta sign up).  The price is currently $4.65/gallon but remember you get the fuel tax refund of 37.5 cents, plus 10 or 20 cents off if you buy more than 50 or 100 gallons.  So net it’s less than a buck more than you’d pay if you hauled your cans to the gas station.  And you no longer have to worry “do I have enough gas”?

I’d like to do a parade around the lake with the fuel barge for publicity.  We need to help Dustin get to a critical mass of deliveries so he can make the economics work and continue to offer this service for all of us.  Date TBD – a nice weekend afternoon.  Who would want to join me?  To draw people’s attention I’d love to get a long line of boats with good music, some party barges, the usual margaritas etc.

We are planning to start fueling on Monday, June 22nd and everyone that signs up will be scheduled for the week 6/22- 6/26. Your home page should show your estimated deliver date on Sunday, June 21st. We are not charging a minimum service fee as we get started, so don’t worry if your boat is full, we’d love to come by and top you off! We’ll let you know when this fee will be going into effect.
Our price will be posted on your account home page as well as the website, and it will be updated every morning. A couple notes about pricing: Our pricing model is based off other Marinas pricing in the area. Yarrow Bay is $4.71/gal today and Seattle Boat is $4.52/ gal. We will always try to stay comparable to the marina pricing. Also remember that we will be offering discounts based on your fuel consumption in a 4 week period starting from your first fueling. This discount will be credited to you account at the end of the period.
Signups are open to all of you who “pre-signed” until Friday, June 19th; at that time it will be open to the general public. So be sure to sign up soon and pass on the information to your friends and family so they can enjoy the service this summer as well!

Sound Rowers and Paddlers Lake Sammamish Race

Great Event! I’ll be there as a Safety Boat, and would love to get other LSYC boats to help out. We definitely need a couple boats to cover both the long and short courses, particularly since the rowers and paddlers get rather spread out from first to last.

  • The Sound Rowers and Paddlers Lake Sammamish Race is being held on Saturday, May 30 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM. Starting from Sunset Beach at Lake Sammamish State Park, the race circles the southern half of the lake (short course) or the entire lake (long course). Rowers and paddlers from all over the Northwest will be participating, and everyone who is an experienced paddler or rower is invited to enter!

The race is set up so the long course racers start at 10 AM, and the short course racers start at 11 AM. This enables competitors from both races to complete at roughly the same time and creates greater action at the finish line.

There will be snacks and drinks available before the race, and soups and chili and other tasty items available after the race. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers for each course, in each category. Results from previous races as well as photos can be found at the Sound Rowers web site.

    Distance: 6 miles short/13miles long
Pre-race Meetings: 9:15 AM (long course), 10:15 AM (short course)
    Director : Michael Lampi
    Phone: 425.641.3941
    Web site: http://soundrowers.org

In addition, if there are people who would be interested in volunteering as safety boat captains or crew, or assisting with the land portion of the event instead of racing or spectating, please contact me.

    Thank you!

Help Needed to Support Docks at Lake Sammamish State Park Funding in this year’s Budget

Help! Please take 2 minutes to call the WA Legislative hotline 1-800-562-6000 M-F 8AM-8PM to express your support for the State Park Docks. The House version of the State budget blocks funding for State Parks docks. The Governor included it in his budget recommendation, as did the Senate budget, but unless the House-Senate budget compromise negotiated in the next few weeks includes funding from the state, we will LOSE the $1M of matching funding from the Boating Facilities Grant which we won’t get back for at least 2 years if ever. Docks & Sunset Beach Site PlanThis is an illustration of the new docks proposed for the Lake Sammamish State Park, as well as improvement to the (smaller) beach, enhanced wetlands on the east and west ends of the current beach, new lawn, improved play areas & sand box. This will be a park you will want to visit – and can come by boat!   More info on the project here https://secure.rco.wa.gov/PRISM/search/ProjectSnapshot.aspx?ProjectNumber=14-1683

Having a dock at the state park, with the new concession (going in as part of the new bathhouse which should be open in May http://patanostudio.com/featured-project… ) will give us a destination on the lake and boat access to all the events at the State Park. Please, Please take 2 minutes to make the call to give boaters access to OUR state Park. You don’t even need to know your district or legislator just dial the hotline number tell them your address and they will connect you to your legislator’s office to register your views.
This issue so directly impacts all of us on the lake, it’s in the community interest to make this call to “improve our neighborhood”. It’s your state park and boating gas tax money, if not spent here, it will be spend elsewhere far from our homes, where we won’t get to enjoy it.
If you want to go beyond just a call and email your legislator (as I have) – contact addresses are herehttp://app.leg.wa.gov/memberemail/ and you can find your district / legislator here http://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/ I know you are busy but please at least take 2 minutes to dial 1-800-562-6000, tell them your address, and leave the message with the receptionist “I support funding the Lake Sammamish State Park Docks” Timing is critical, please make the call now.

LSYC Opening Day/Cinco De Mayo BBQ

Kick-off the official start of the boating season on Lake Sammamish with our annual Cinco De Mayo themed BBQ on May 3rd at 2 PM at Sammamish Landing Park (North East Corner of the Lake). Get a chance to meet your neighbors and learn more about Lakeside Fueling and the Lake Sammamish Yacht Club. – It’s BYO everything. We plan to share the grill in the picnic shelter and put out a pot luck spread. We’ll come by boat and try to raft up off the docks, but the tie off options are limited so bring BIG bumpers, lines, anchors. We have been working with Sammamish Parks to try to improve boat docking, but no results so far (we need your support to make this a priority – maybe photos of many boats rafted up for this event will help). The east side trail may still be closed and vehicle parking is limited. This event is weather dependent – no one wants to boat and picnic in the rain.Sammamish Landing Opening (2)

Lakeside Fueling is coming to Lake Sammamish!

Great news for folks that keep their boat in the lake!  Dustin Talley and his father Dean, LSYC members who have lived on the lake for several years, are launching Lakeside Fueling www.LakeSideFueling.com  for us!  I hate filling, hauling, and pouring gas cans – it’s the worst part of boating on this lake.  I’ve been looking for a solution to fueling our boats for some time, but getting a fixed fuel dock is extremely difficult.  I have met with them, learned about and endorse their service plans, and would like to see LSYC members work with them to try to make this an effective and economical service for everyone on the lake.  I need your help quickly getting their customer base to viable scale.

How it works:
A custom designed, pontoon boat with substantial fuel capacity, travels to your dock and fills-up your boat using an EPA and Coast Guard Approved fueling system during the week.  You get an invoice for gallons delivered, with video footage of the fueling event, and pay by credit card.  You know when they are scheduled but no need to be present; they use GPS to find your dock and confirm your boat registration number.  You can use their iPhone app or their website to adjust your fueling schedule, and even see “where is the fuel boat now” for an on-demand fill up if you are getting low.

Price:
The key to make this work is to ensure there is enough scheduled demand on our lake to do business at an economic fuel price.  They are targeting pricing comparable to marine fueling stations on lake Washington http://www.nwboatinfo.com/Lake-Union—Lake-Washington.html with delivery included.  That’s probably about a buck a gallon more than auto gas stations, but at year end you’ll get a summary receipt and filled in fuel tax refund form good for 37.5 cents per gallon back from the state http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/ftrefunds.html (54 gallon minimum).  Scheduled deliveries during the week are key to efficiently reaching all of us around the lake.  The more fuel we buy through this service, the lower our cost per gallon can be, so there will be discounts based on scheduled volume – let’s quickly make this new business viable so we can all use the service for years to come.

Value:
So net, it’s about $3 for a 5 gallon can delivered into your boat.  Think of the time, effort, and back strain saved driving to the gas station, filling each can, putting smelly gas cans in your car, hauling them down all the stairs to your boat, draining them into the tank.  Loosing prime sunny boat time, when the kids want to go out, while you drive to the gas station.  Or having to worry “do I have enough gas” when out on the water, or cut short a great afternoon, because I left the dock with only ¼ tank.  This way you are always full.  Considering that typical powerboat depreciates about $3000/year; If you only go out 10x depreciation is $300/trip, at 20x it’s $150/trip, even if like me you get out over 60x per year, depreciation alone is $50/trip (and this ignores fixed costs for storage, insurance, licensing,…).  An extra $3/can of gas is a bargain by comparison if it gets you out enjoying your boat more.  How often do you not go out because you are low on gas or it’s a pain to fill right now.  You’ll get more value out of your boat and your waterfront property with this service.  I think having a fuel service on our lake makes all our homes more valuable at least $1,000 maybe $10,000?.  If this business doesn’t get support from enough residents, I don’t think we will ever be able to get gas on Lake Samm – and what could be easier and better than automatic fill-ups?

Environment:
You know how much you spill from those difficult fuel cans, and it’s getting worse with the new regulated cans that are so difficult to use.  This EPA approved fueling system will mean far less gas in the lake, with a trained professional operator, splash guards, and fuel spill response equipment on-board.  These are our neighbors who live on the lake and are dedicated to improving our water quality.

Sign-Up:
As this business gets started they want to deliver dependable scheduled service.  It will take time to fill and launch the fuel boat each day, travel to each dock, fuel each boat, and get the boat back on the trailer.  They estimate 20 fill-ups per day x 5 weekdays, = 100/week.  With 1200+ boats parked on our lake, they may not be able to meet demand.  They want your feedback, how much gas you use, and how frequently you’d like a fill up.  SO I asked Dustin to put me down as customer #1 and to give LSYC members early notice of the service and account sign-up list (no obligation) to guarantee yourself a spot this summer.  http://www.lakesidefueling.com/#!beta-sign-up/c10tn   We will post this on LSYC Facebook, the web page, this week and then NextDoor LakeSamm next week.  Please give your fellow LSYC members a week to sign up, then tell all your friends.  They plan to begin fueling service in May with just 100 accounts to start “Beta-phase”.  We plan to see Dustin, Dean and the fuel boat at many of our events this Spring and Summer (soon to be announced).

I’m sure you have questions for Dustin & Dean, you can reach them directly at lakesidefueling@gmail.com

I personally am very excited for this service and I believe you all will be too.  Don’t miss the boat, and have to haul your gas all summer!  Help make your property more valuable!  Sign up now.

ON for Xmas Eve – North end Xmas Lights parade

Sun is finally out, and forecast seems positive for this evening, so Santa’s Sled will make the run tonight to get it in before Christmas.  We will start at dark ~ 4:30 middle of the lake and run clockwise.   I expect Rudolph and I are the only ones crazy enough to do this on Christmas Eve, but if anyone wants to join me call my mobile (425) 449-0070 – as I’m heading out to get the sleigh ready now.  Note we have NOT made arrangements for the launch ramp to stay open late, so if you want to join me, and you are not on the lake, we can park your boat at my dock for the night.

———————————————————————————-

With a 90% chance of rain tonight and 50% chance Sunday, I doesn’t look like we’ll be able to do the North End Parade this weekend.  Forecast is pretty wet till Xmas Eve.  I’m still looking for a break in the weather when we can get this in over the holidays and photograph the best north end Xmas decorations.  Also still recruiting for other boats to join in.  Call me if anyone is interested in joining (425) 449-0070

———————————————————————————-

SORRY – While the weather is perfect, only my boat (w/Big Santa) was confirmed for Sat 12/13 (or Sunday).  I will try to get more boats for next weekend – date to be confirmed – we will try for Saturday 12/20

North End Parade Changed to Start Mid-Lake

We are changing the starting point and direction of the North End Parade on Saturday 12/13:  We plan start gathering the boats together at the mid-point / middle of the lake – get everyone lit, musically synched and organized at 4:30 PM.  (Instead of starting at the north end)  We will proceed west to Weowna Point (near 1400 SE) up the West side of the lake heading north.  Let’s get a big holiday crowd out on the docks at the north end apartments around 6-6:30 PM, Idlewood Park, and Sammamish Landing, perhaps with caroling and bonfires along the shore.  We will do a couple loops if we get a crowd to come out. Then we continue to parade clockwise around the lake down the east side to Mint Grove (half-way down the lake near 1400 SE) to end maybe 8PM if all goes on schedule.  Many of the boats will then proceed down the east side of the lake (at faster speed, further offshore) to the State Park Boat Ramp which will stay open till the boats are off the lake.  This change will reduce the distance traveled for the boats coming from the launch ramp before and after the parade by about 4 miles each way and the Sammamish Rowers won’t join us this year.
